benefits of membership
CAAIP is open to those at any stage of their career journey in philanthropy, and seeks to foster cross-generational relationships among members. Through social events, professional development programming and workforce opportunities, CAAIP helps members build community and grow their careers. These bonds and peer learning opportunities strengthen the pursuit of racial equity across the social sector. CAAIP also provides a space for members to incubate new ideas, host topical and timely dialogues, and design programming around highlighted solutions. Together, CAAIP is, as one member remarked, “united in the pursuit of philanthropy to serve and benefit the Black community.”
building a cohesive and vital philanthropic community
CAAIP knows that the power of philanthropy lies within its ability to intentionally connect to community members, both internally and externally to the organization. To foster connection across the CAAIP community, CAAIP provides a variety of networking opportunities for its members.

Monthly Member Breakfast
An informal, monthly gathering where members fellowship over breakfast and build community.
“Trust Black Women”
In 2020, Chicago African Americans in Philanthropy launched our Trust Black Women series to act and speak powerfully about the impact of investing in initiatives and organizations led by Black women. As we continue our commitment to expanding Black leadership opportunities in the social sector we are excited to relaunch this program with greater opportunities for networking, mentoring, and shared learning for participants.
The ‘Social Circle Series’ Education Series
The signature education series of CAAIP provides an opportunity for members of the CAAIP community to both learn and teach on topics that challenge the status quo of philanthropy.
Connecting Philanthropy and Community
This annual event provides an opportunity to promote the importance of Black representation in the social sector and celebrate those driving equity in the field.
