Executive Director
Waukegan, IL

Beacon Place was established in the Fall of 2012 by a group of dedicated and inspired individuals who recognized a significant need in southeast Waukegan. In the Spring of 2013, the founders of Beacon Place acquired an abandoned home in Waukegan that they envisioned would become a beacon to the neighbors, becoming a local community center that would deliver programs focused on food and nutrition, overall health, academic support and life skill development. With belief in the power of neighbors helping neighbors, these volunteers listened closely to the needs of the families in their community and brought them programs and support that have allowed the people of the community to see a path to new opportunities in their lives.

Beacon Place has nine employees, a $900,000 annual budget, is governed by a dedicated 6-member Board of Directors and welcomes more than 300 volunteers from the broader community in addition to scores of partners, donors and supporters. Beacon Place has brought a vision of hope to nearly 4,000 children and families.

The Executive Director of Beacon Place will be provided with the opportunity to substantially shape the long-term future of this organization with a trusted reputation, dedicated staff and an engaged Board of Directors. Specifically, the Executive Director will be charged, in partnership with the Board, with crafting the strategic plan for the organization. Critical opportunities exist for Beacon Place to expand its impact through growth – programmatically, physically (expansion to additional locations) and organizationally (maturity and professionalism). The chief executive will be supported by a motivated, dedicated Board of Directors seeking to build upon a strong foundation and advance our effectiveness, impact and influence with ambition.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors. He/She/They are responsible for providing hands on leadership to drive the direction of the organization within the community; ensuring that the staff is performing in a way that strengthens and promotes the Beacon Place brand; and driving the efficiency of the organization through all administrative areas (finance, human resources, communications, facility management, programming, fundraising/community outreach, marketing, technology, etc.). The Executive Director also serves as an advocate for the interests of those who are served by Beacon Place.

Beacon Place is ready to move into its next phase of organizational growth. We seek an inspiring, empowering and innovative proven leader with a demonstrated passion for the mission and a deep appreciation of, respect for and commitment to helping children and families.
